My Halfway Life

The dishwasher is full of clean dishes, but the sink is already full again
The table is cleared, but not clean
The playroom is picked up, but dust abounds
The laundry is done, but not folded or put away
The toilet bowl is cleaned, but the rest is not
The guest bedroom still isn't picked up from Addie's early morning vomit fest
The sheets are washed and dried (finally), but haven't made it to the bed yet
The fish is alive, but still hasn't eaten today
As I was running errands, attempting to clean the house, and taking care of my kiddos this morning, I realized that just about everything in my life is halfway done. There's ALWAYS an interruption between a three month old, a two year old, a husband, a dog, a fish, a home, and a yard to care for on a daily basis. I looked around the house and took a few snapshots to verify my claim.
At times, this "halfway life" drives me a little crazy. I want to have my home cleaned and organized for ONE day; is that too much to ask? The honest answer--yes! When I start feeling overwhelmed by the fact that nothing is done, I recall a phenomenal piece of advice I gained from a seasoned mom: when your life has come to an end, you won't wish that you'd spent more time (fill in the chore), but that you spent more time loving your family. Lightbulb! When my children are grown, I don't want them to remember what a clean house I kept (although I try). I want them to recall the love and fun and adventure, amidst the mess. So, to all the mamas out there, if you're living a messy life, you're doing a fantastic job! I might be wishing for a sparkling home now, but when my children are grown, I know I'll wish I was right back in the glorious chaos of early motherhood.
