About four years ago, God placed on my heart the desire to adopt. I understand this is not an easy process nor journey, which makes me further believe its a God-thing to want to bring an abandoned or abused child into our home. Tim and I have discussed this possibility for a few years, spoken to pastors and those who have adopted, and visited a shelter in order to seek more information and guidance. We've decided to have our own children first, and then revisit the idea of adoption. This calling initiated and flourished while we were part of a young married couples Bible study near Fort Hood. Our leaders adopted two children, and have since adopted four more (while having two biological children as well). I am continually fascinated and inspired by their devotion to Christ and radical obedience. The last four children they adopted are siblings from Ethiopia whose parents died in a fire. Four more of their siblings were also orphaned in the incident. Talk about walking in faith--to adopt four children (who don't speak English) when you already have four children at home!!! Truly remarkable. I yearn to get to that place where I can say "Yes!" to God, no matter how scary or impossible what He asks of me may seem. Every time I hear stories about orphaned or abused children, meet people who are adopted or have adopted, see shows or movies that deal with the topic, or read about fostering and adoption, I am utterly reinvigorated to one day say "Yes!" to God on this subject. My hubby is a little more apprehensive, and I respect his position, but I pray we're both eager and willing to start this journey as a family one day. There are millions of children that need a safe, loving, Godly home, and I believe God has given me the heart and tools to change a child's life in this way. The below trailer, for the movie Drop Box, pulls intensely at my heartstrings. Warning: it's difficult to watch this video, which documents a pastor who welcomes abandoned children into his Korean home. But again, it ignites my passion for adoption! Looking forward to the release of this movie and gaining further inspiration! Visit Kindred Image to find out more about Pastor Lee and how you can support his mission through prayer and/or donation.
