Welcome, Friend

I am a former high school English teacher, enjoying the blessing (and utter craziness) of being a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom, author and Down syndrome advocate. My husband, Tim, is an Apache helicopter pilot in the Army. Tim and I met in high school English class and married after college. Our seventeen years in the military have found us stationed at Ft. Rucker, AL; Ft. Hood, TX; Ft. Bliss, TX; West Point, NY; and Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Currently, we are stationed at Fort Liberty, NC. We have four children--a strong-willed and kind-hearted daughter named Adeline; our sweet adrenaline-seeker, Lincoln; our joyful and humorous, Isla; and our little word-changer with Down syndrome, Finley. With our transient lifestyle and all the unknowns that the Army hands us, our faith in Christ keeps us grounded and able to handle whatever comes our way, trusting in God's plan for our family.

1. God is the primary focus in our family and the driving force behind everything we do.

5. I direct a military family program at our church that supports military spouses when their service member is deployed.

6. In 2023, the Lord blessed with us with Finley, our daughter who has Down syndrome. She has changed our world dramatically (for the better!) and turned us into fierce Down syndrome advocates.

7. Finley required an 88-day NICU stay when she was born. During that time, we lived at the Ronald McDonald House with our other three children. Watch our story here.

8. We sponsor a child in Mozambique, Africa through World Vision.

9. Tim and I have been married since 2009, surviving the stressors of the profession with the highest divorce rate on the planet
(and learning how to thrive and help others through it!).

10. I became a believer in Jesus at the age of 23 while reading Max Lucado's
3:16: The Numbers of Hope.

11. I was baptized while pregnant with our first child.

12. While stationed at West Point, we lost most of our material possessions due to uninhabitable levels of mold. We now battle mold hypersensitivity, asthma, lung disease and other complications.

13. I dream of one day writing a book that will inspire medical professionals and parents to embrace an unexpected diagnosis of Down syndrome, leading to the a zero percent abortion rate for babies with Down syndrome
(which currently sits around 80 percent globally).
Dream bold, right?!
