A Day on Post

Yesterday, we wanted to get out of the house, but Adeline and I are both sick, so we didn't want to infect anyone else. Tim had the idea to visit the 1st Armored Division Museum and the Fort Bliss Cemetery, where two Medal of Honor recipients are buried. After two years at Bliss, it's about time we looked at some of the history around here! Luckily, there were only about five other people at the expanisve museum, so I don't imagine we got anyone else sick. Adeline behaved really well, minus a tantrum when she wanted to climb on the exhibit recognizing Omar Bradley, one of the few Five Star Generals, and when she hoped to run free in the parking lot.
Adeline loooved walking around all the exhibits. I joked last night that she walks like she's ten months pregnant, quite the waddle and a protruding belly.
Then, we drove over to the Fort Bliss cemetery to see the Medal of Honor gravesites. The entrance to the cemetery is really quite beautiful. It's lacking the lush green grass we're accustomed to at a cemetery, as most places around here are, but it was still sprinkled with trees and manicured well. On the way to the gravesites we went for, we saw an infant headstone that caught us both, a soldier and his wife that lost two of their infant children. I cannot fathom. After we saw the MOH graves, we visited some of the memorial plaques, including one given by the Gold Star Wives and the POW memorial. Lastly, we saw the Bliss headstone, which is placed in the middle of the cemetery. Again, Adeline enjoyed all the exploring. It was a peaceful afternoon, learning about Ft. Bliss and seeing a little more of America's history.
