Our guest speaker at MOPS today was a mother of three, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of two. We had the pleasure of hearing her speak about the mistakes she made as a mother, and the one thing she really did right. Her stories were hysterical and all of her lessons were relatable and backed by scripture. The first mistake of hers she wanted us to learn from was her lack of patience with her children. She reinforced the idea that children will act like children and to embrace that time in their lives. Secondly, she expressed the importance of communicating with your children--sincerely listening to them. Thirdly, we learned the importance of involving your kids in chores and family responsibilities. Next, she spoke about the need to discipline your children, but out of love and not anger. And lastly the speaker stressed the importance of praying for your family. The one thing she said that she proudly did right was to raise her children in Christ. She now has the blessing of watching her children raise their kids in The Word. It was a wonderful message that I'll embrace and utilize as we raise our little one.
