A New Dog for the Night

Tonight as Tim and I came home from a hail and farewell, a car honked at dog in the middle of the road, just a couple houses down. It was a small white poodle so I asked Tim if we could go after it to check its collar. Unfortunately, it only had a rabies tag and no identification. We called the number on the tag and the answering service said we had to wait to get more information until 9 A.M., but if we wanted they would sent out the field agents and animal control would take the dog. Well, we couldn't do that to this sweet dog so he came home with us for the night, after knocking on neighbors' doors with no success of finding his owners. We believe the dog is still a puppy based on his behavior and that he has a good home because he is freshly groomed--even smells like the fragrance they use at the groomer, so we think he was there just today. We introduced him to Wil and Zu in the garage and they got along famously, especially him and Zazua. Tim wanted to name the dog for the night so I suggested Mister since he looks like our white poodle from when I was a kid, named Misty. He drank A TON of water when he came in and we fed him dinner. We made him a bed in the bathroom but he cried and cried and Tim felt bad for him so we let him sleep by the side of our bed. He cried for awhile there, too, but Tim calmed him and he finally fell asleep. Problem was I couldn't fall asleep. So after an hour and a half of clock watching I quietly got up (trying not to wake our visitor) and went to the living room to read. But he heard me and started whining again so now I'm sitting in the living room with all the dogs hoping to let Tim get some rest. Wil and Zu are trying to sleep on the couch, but Mister is pacing and crying and can't settle down. Hopefully we'll all get sleep at some point tonight and we can locate his owners tomorrow.

The above paragraph was written last night. The vet gave us the owner's information and we returned him to his home this morning. The dog lives just two streets away. The owners didn't seem concerned about his night away from home so I felt a little uncomfortable returning him. Hopefully he's in good hands.
