A Princess-Biker Kind of Halloween

Last week we got to celebrate our first Halloween as a family of four. It was cute seeing our kids dressed up together and Addie more into trick-or-treating than ever. Although the holiday can get a little too spooky and dark, I love the harmless costume and candy aspect. As a kid, I always looked forward to  picking a costume, getting dressed up, and going door to door to fill up my bucket--what kid doesn't? I have to admit eating the candy was always my favorite part (and still is as I sneak into Addie's candy collection all day!).

Early in October, we found a cute Sophia the First costume and I thought it would look adorable on Addie. We thought about making it a family affair and having Lincoln be one of her side kicks, Clover or Minimus, but I couldn't dress him up as a bunny or purple miniature horse for his first Halloween--he had to be something cooler! I started looking on Pinterest for ideas and saw a hysterical picture of a baby biker. He had a bandana, biker boots, tattoos, and a goatee painted on his face. And so it was that I began planning Lincoln's biker costume.

There's a great second hand baby store in Tucson called Little Bird Nesting Company where I found a perfect onesie for the occasion, which I cut the sleeves off of, and these great motorcycle boots--all for just a few bucks. I didn't think he would keep a bandana on, but I thought he might keep something on that had some stretch in it. I had an old camouflage jersey dress that I hadn't worn in years and decided to cut that up to make his bandana. Then, I bought some tattoos to complement the costume. He wouldn't let me paint a goatee on him (such  a bummer), but then I found a mustache pacifier I thought would be perfect. It was too heavy for him to suck on so that didn't work either, but I still think his costume was adorable!

We went to a costume birthday party in the afternoon and then went to my brother-in-law's house for dinner and trick-or-treating. Addie was so excited to see a couple other little girls there and admired each of their costumes. Lincoln was a trooper, keeping his bandana on, and watching the other kids have fun. i tried to capture some photos before the festivities, but it was too hard to get them both looking and smiling at the time and in the same direction. Plus, Adeline's in this phase where she can't give her real smile for a picture, it's one of these interesting looks you see below where she looks either constipated or in pain, haha.
Lincoln sat in his little police car for about a quarter of the trick-or-treating part, and then we carried him the rest of the time. Addie and the other kids spent over an hour in the neighborhood collecting candy. It was so cute to hear her say "Trick-or-Treat" so expressively and she was almost perfect at following it up with a thank you. She had a hard time keeping up with the other kids, but they waited for her every few houses so she could catch up with them. And she really enjoyed holding hands with the other mommies, who were sweet to tend to her. She had one spill during the dark of the evening, but recovered quickly and thoroughly enjoyed herself the rest of the night! I look forward to seeing what she'll want to be next year and finding another fun costume idea for Lincoln.

How totally adorable! Lincoln makes such a "tough" looking biker, and Addie is the perfect little princess! Precious!
