Adeline's First Birthday

12/2/2013

At the end of October we did an early birthday celebration for Adeline. We decided on an "under the sea" theme since her favorite toy is a sea turtle. On a last minute run to Hobby Lobby, we picked up a faux fishing net, blue and green paper paper lanterns, sea shells, sand dollars, and star fish. We purchased a glass bottle and cork for people to fill with messages that she will get to read on her 18th birthday. When it was time for cake, Dave played a fun birthday jingle on the piano while we sang to her, then her cousins blew out the candles, twice, and next we all enjoyed watching her dig into the sugar! After cake she had fun playing with all the paper, bags, and presents a little girl could desire.

On her actual birthday, we took her to Build-A-Bear to pick out a stuffed animal. We pulled out each of the empty animals and let her choose which one she wanted. Ultimately, she hugged a koala bear the hardest so she was our winner. Next, we played all the sound options for her and she danced like crazy to a happy birthday song, which was perfect. Next we made the obligatory wish on the heart of the bear that was inserted along with the sound button. After that we watched one of the employees stuff the bear. Tim decided the bear didn't need clothes so we finished up by making it's birth certificate. He had the idea to name the bear using a Hawaiian name so we settled on Ku'uiopo (Kui for short), which means sweetheart. If you remember the clip from the end of her one year video where shes' shaking her butt, she's dancing to the happy birthday song that the bear sings =). After our bear trip, we sang to Addie once more and let her enjoy a cupcake covered with pink sprinkles.
