Adios, Facebook...for 24 Hours
I have to admit, Facebook and email are pretty addicting. I probably check my email about ten times a day and whenever I receive a notification on my phone from Facebook, I check that, too. I'm hesitant to join other social media platforms that will hook me into that scene even more. In an effort not to let virtual technology affect my time with my daughter, I have a rule that I don't open the computer or my phone when Adeline is awake. But, I know it still takes my attention away. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, Tim gets Addie up and spends most of the morning with her while I write, hidden from site in our bedroom. So, I miss that time with her, but I think I'm fine with it because it gives father and daughter some solo time to bond and I get a little me-time. Also, as a company commander in the Army, my husband pretty much works a 24 hour shift; somebody ALWAYS needs something from him. Most nights, he continues his workday after dinner; I often open the computer to work on OFH at this point. This causes us to miss out on time together since we're both engaged elsewhere. He changes out of command next week, and hopefully we can spend more nights together once that phase of our lives is complete.
To focus more on my family and relationship with God, I'm abstaining from the computer for the next 24 hours. When I get the urge to write on OFH, check if I have any comments or likes on FB, or work in Photoshop, I'll redirect my attention to God and use the time that I would spend on the computer (or my phone) in prayer. A fast from Facebook, I guess you can call it.
40 Day Challenge--Day 33
Complete a fast for 24 hours. You can choose to fast from food, technology, or any hobby that consumes your time on a daily basis. Whenever you desire to engage in the activity that you're fasting from, spend time in prayer. Use the next 24 hours to hear God's voice, develop a closer relationship with Him, and learn to re-prioritize your time. Think about it as a couple's retreat for you, your family, and Christ =).
