Baby Update

On June 2nd, we had our 12 week visit for Baby, and finally got to see a REAL doctor! During the ultrasound we received the blessed news that the hemorrhage on the gestational sac dissolved--thank God! It was wonderful to see the baby moving around and exploring his or her space. The doctor said he thinks it's a girl, adding that he always says that, so Tim assured himself the doctor was joking =). Tim's convinced we're having a boy and always calls the baby Lil' Man. It's crazy to think that we can find out the sex of the baby in a couple weeks, if we want to know early.

On the nausea front, I'm starting to have a couple functional days. I still feel sick here and there on my "good" days but there are periods where I get a break. A cute story about Addie, this week while I lay on the couch feeling ill, she cuddled in close alternately stroking and kissing my cheek--so sweet! A memory I'll forever cherish.

I've also been able to feel the baby move for the last couple weeks, much earlier than with Addie. I believe this is earlier than they say is possible, but I definitely feel movement. Before I get out of bed each morning, I have to take pill to help the nausea and eat a granola bar. Every time I begin to eat the granola bar I feel the baby move and it's all worth it!

Here's what Baby is working on this week, from Baby Center:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches --about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells.

We LOST you! We sold our house and moved, as you know, but THEN we bought a new computer and lost all addresses. In addition, we have to get used to a whole new Windows 8.1.

Please return us to your subscribers! Lorie shared your challenges, and we continue praying for the whole Ashcraft clan! I know you'll be moving to Tuscon soon, and we look forward to hearing more about "Li'l Man," Addie, Tim, and of course YOU!
