Climb to Conquer Cancer

3/3/2013

This Saturday, Addie, my mom, and I attended the 27th annual Climb to Conquer Cancer. The walk was six miles total; it started at Pima Community College West Campus, went up 'A' mountain and returned back to campus. It was a chilly morning, starting out at 39 degrees, but ended up in the 70s by the time we were done. Addie did wonderful up the mountain, stopping half way to eat. Shaved ice just happened to be served at this point--one of my favorites! Once we reached the top of the mountain there was music and a pancake breakfast. They announced the teams and amount raised, over 100 thousand dollars. We signed the banner in memory of my Uncle Gary and Aunt Reta and in honor of my friend, Anna, who is currently fighting cancer. On the way down we followed everyone through a dirt path on the mountain to get back to campus. What a mess that was! The stroller didn't push well amidst all the rocks and dips and had to be carried at times. We had to hold Adeline all the while because it was so bumpy. Keeping her covered from the sun and staying on my feet was tricky. I also got acquainted with a cactus pretty well. Luckily, a man nearby was familiar with this type of cactus and pulled it all out for me. Then, Addie had a meltdown before passing out. The way up the mountain was wonderful, but it was rather hectic on the way down! I'm so glad we were able to "climb to conquer." Hopefully this is just the first benefit walk among many for Adeline!
