Free Presents in His Presence

Day 27
Buy, buy, buy--our society in a nutshell. We've been sucked into the false notion that we have the ability to purchase our way to happiness. Then, a certain moment occurs, reminding us that God's free gifts are far superior to anything we can ever find in a store. One free present God's given me is the opportunity to watch the budding relationship between a father and daughter. Adeline didn't see her dad (other than on Skype) from her third month of life until just shy of her first birthday, due to Tim's deployment in Afghanistan. The two pretty much had to start from scratch, once he returned safely home. It's little moments, like in this clip, that remind me that free is indefinitely more gratifying and lasting:
40 Day Challenge--Day 27:

Take the time to enjoy, REALLY enjoy, something free! God has surrounded us by beautiful creations and experiences that don't cost a penny. Embrace an opportunity to sincerely appreciate His priceless presents (and presence).

P.S. If you're interested in trying the "diaper box derby" with your kiddos, try attaching a piece of ribbon or twine to the the box so you don't break your back. Addie has us on repeat FOREVER before I finally poked a hole in the box, and attached some ribbon to pull her along without having to bend over the whole time. After you've pushed your child around the house for what seems like the millionth time, open the box and let them decorate it. I only allowed her a yellow highlighter for this impromptu art session, to minimize the inevitable damage that a one year old creates with markers =).
