GI Appt.

We finally had Addie's GI appointment today! Thank you for your prayers that Dr. Santos would take more than two minutes with us--he did. We did, however, have to wait over an hour to see him. When I signed in I saw that he makes appointments for every FIVE MINUTES! No wonder he has the reputation he does. Luckily, Addie was on her best behavior and didn't cry for a second during our long wait, even though she was wide awake the whole time. Once the nurse took us back she weighed Adeline and asked us all the general questions about why we were there and made a copy of Addie's ultrasound notes and the feeding log we've been keeping over the last four weeks. She asked if we brought a stool sample (which they didn't ask me to do when I made the appointment) so I started to feed her to see if we could produce results =). No such luck in the poop department, but the doctor did walk in on her feeding and got to see her crying and cringing as a result. He did a quick physical and ordered two tests to be done. She will have to fast for three hours before each test. And although our sweet Adeline is a wonderful baby, when she wants to eat...SHE WANTS TO EAT! Prayers for her patience and maybe a long nap during that time would be much appreciated. The first test will be an upper GI scan to see if her esophagus is burned or if there are any hernias present. The second will scan her intestines as she eats. The children's hospital is supposed to call us tomorrow to make the appointment and then we'll head back to the GI for the results. Since we're leaving El Paso in less than a month they agreed to rush this process for us.

At this point Dr. Santos was ready to walk out, but I had a long list of questions for him and he did sit back down to answer all of them. He didn't expand on any answers, though. He was extremely pleased that I was breastfeeding and told me to take soy out of my diet for the next two weeks. He said if there is no improvement in two weeks I can reintroduce it to my diet. So there goes all dairy, nuts, fish and soy. I was never a real label reader prior to being pregnant with Addie, but you'd be amazed to find soy in almost everything. This is going to be a tough couple of weeks. He doesn't want to change her prescription or add any additional meds until he gets the results of her tests back. He was pleased that she's gaining weight so he said we can let her sleep longer at night and don't need to adjust how much she's eating. Lastly, he promised to look at her feeding log to see if he can see any patterns; he did comment that it was apparent she cries the majority of her feedings. Overall, I'd say it was a positive visit.

Ash So glad the Doctor was able to give you some suggestions. Hopefully the tests won't take to long to get done. Also that he gave the time to ask questions. You are always in our prayers. She is such an adorable baby. Addie seems so happy on the video. Look forward to good news. Love Aunt Jean
