Happiness vs. Enjoyment

Day 12
In today's society we are falsely focused on our individual happiness. We buy things to make us happy. We want to spend our time with people that make us happy. We desire a job that will make us happy. However, God's plan is not for me to happy. God's desire is for me to have a deep relationship with Him, growing in His love, practicing His commands, finding peace and joy through Him, and spreading His word. I've lived most of my life in "the world," but I've lived my last five years in "the Word," finally finding true happiness--in Him.

This morning I was captivated by Deuteronomy 6: 1-2: "These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe..., so that you, your children, and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life," (emphasis added). So, God doesn't promise me happiness, but he does show me how to lead a life of enjoyment. And the only way I can experience TRUE enjoyment is by leading a life of obedience and reverence to God.

40 Day Challenge--Day 11:

Memorize the Ten Commandments. If we are to obey God's commands, teach it to our children, and thus enjoy long life, we must first learn what He expects of us. If you already have these committed to memory, consider helping someone you love learn His commandments, too.
