Happy Strangers

This week I encountered a couple strangers that made me smile in their simplicity. The first one took place at Sprouts. Like most people, I scope out each line, looking for the quickest option. Once I got in line and started unloading my full cart a man got in line behind me with just two items. I told him I would have let him go ahead of me had I seen him, and he replied, "That's O.K., I don't do rush anymore." It was such a simple phrase, but I fell in love with it! "I don't do rush anymore." What a nice way to live. I feel like I'm always rushing in this season of my life. Rushing to gather the million items before we leave the house, rushing to be at least five minutes late no matter where we go, rushing to run an errand before Adeline needs to eat or nap, rushing to check off our to-do list before her bewitching hour in the evenings =), rushing to help my mom fix up the house, rushing to prepare for our upcoming move...rushing! Just thinking about it is exhausting. So what if we just don't do rush?! How much more enjoyable life would be if I wasn't counting the seconds every time I waited in the grocery line!

The second encounter took place on a street corner in town. Two men were jumping up and down excitedly waving signs, giving thumbs up, and air fives. I assumed they were trying to rope us into a car wash or garage sale, but no, they only wanted to tell me to have a good day. Really, their signs said, "Have a good day." How simple, and sweet, and needed for all of us RUSHING around.
