Let It Go (And Not In Regards to Frozen)

I'm on Day 113 of my Billy Graham devotional and almost every day I find myself eager to see what wisdom awaits in my inbox. A couple days ago these words found me:

Historians will probably call our era "the age of anxiety." Anxiety is the natural result when our hopes are centered in anything short of God and His will for us. When we make anything else our goal, frustration and defeat are inevitable. Though we have less to worry about than previous generations, we have more worry. Though we have it easier than our forefathers, we have more uneasiness. Though we have less real cause for anxiety than our predecessors, we are inwardly more anxious. Calloused hands were the badge of the pioneer, but a furrowed brow is the insignia of modern man.

How true it is! Some of you have been aware of my "zebra" health issues over the last several months, that keep evading my doctors. Weight loss and nausea have been a present factor since August, but still nothing seems to show up in blood work and testing. A recent abdominal ultrasound revealed that I have an enlarged spleen, but apparently nausea isn't a symptom of splenomegaly, so I'm still on this wild goose chase for answers. In addition to this "zebra," as my doctor likes to call it, I faced another medical issue this week that resulted in a trip to the emergency room and some potentially scary findings. Although my worldly self was understandably anxious, I felt total trust in God at the same time. I kept reminding myself that God is in control and His plans are perfect. I even started singing "Our God is an an Awesome God" to calm my nerves during testing (to myself of course, because that would be a little awkward to start belting out aloud in a dark room with a technician).

It's truly amazing how much easier it is to face challenging times with God as my priority and Protector. Billy Graham's got it right--anxiety derives from placing our hopes outside of God. Wouldn't life be entirely more pleasurable and fulfilling if we trusted God with our lives, instead of trying to pin our hopes on our own plans? So as they say, "Let Go and Let God."

P.S. I'm going to be just fine, but prayers would be appreciated =)
