Milk Allergy

In our attempt to help Addie feel better, her doctor has suggested I start a milk-free diet to see if her crying after feedings may be, in part, due to a milk allergy. I'm not a fan of milk, but I do eat a lot of cheese and ice cream so I was a little bummed to have to cut those out of my diet. Upon researching this type of diet (different from a lactose-free diet), I learned that going milk-free reaches far beyond the obvious items of milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, ice cream etc. Milk proteins are found in most breads, crackers, cereals, oatmeals, granola bars, cookies, and on and on and on. The doctor recommended I shop at Sprouts to be able to find items that I can eat. I went last night and it was pretty easy to find specialty items that fit into this new diet. I did have to read every label and put A LOT of items back on the shelf that didn't qualify.  I had to keep referring back to the list of ingredients to avoid to make sure the items in each product were ok. I will attempt to be be milk-free for one month when I can then try to reintroduce it into my diet. If Addie reacts at that time then I'm to continue this diet for another six months before trying again. Let's hope she's not allergic and I can resume eating regularly next month! This will certainly be trying over the holidays!
