More Prego Symptoms

The baby has now brought on acid reflux--yuck! I've never experienced this sensation before and ignored it for the the last week or so, but it's becoming much more frequent and obvious. All of my reading materials mention the probability of this symptom, and sure enough, it's arrived. BabyCenter explains:

During pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus. This hormone also relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach, allowing gastric acids to seep back up, which causes that unpleasant burning sensation. Progesterone also slows down the wavelike contractions of your esophagus and intestines, making digestion sluggish. Later in pregnancy, your growing baby crowds your abdominal cavity, pushing the stomach acids back up into the esophagus.

So it looks like acid reflux is here to stay, at least until we welcome baby girl into the world.
