"Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us." --Martin Luther

I have to agree with old Martin Luther on this one. Whether you're listening to "calm the agitations of the soul," or relax, or worship, or grieve, or for pure enjoyment...music transports you. It's up to you to decide what type of music you'll listen to and thus, your heart-space.

I have a challenge for you: Listen to only Christian music for 30 days. That's it. See what happens.

If your city has KLOVE or American Family Radio, that's a perfect place to start. You can always listen online, too. If you have Time Warner Cable there is a contemporary Christian music station offered. Or, type in "Contemporary Christian" on Pandora and you'll get a fantastic variety.  Just a few of the many free options out there.

The above challenge is broadcasted on K-LOVE radio. I love hearing the phone calls every year of people whose lives are transformed with a simple switch in music (for just 30 days!). I certainly listen to other genres, but I enjoy listening to Christian music above all because of the positive messages and how God works in me through the lyrics.

Did you know that research proves music is THE BIGGEST influence in a teenager's life? Not Mom, Dad, or friends, but music. According to one study the average teenager listens to 11,000 hours of music during their teen years! When I was in high school all I listed to was the local top 40 station. The LARGE majority of songs were about dancing, drugs, drinking, partying, physical beauty, and sex. And, as research demonstrates, that was the most significant influence in my life at the time--frightening!  Can you imagine how different my choices would have been had I listened to songs about God's power and glory, His forgiveness, and how much He loves me?

Below is one of the playlists in my itunes library, titled "Ash's Worship Music." I hope these songs inspire you, too! Happy listening!
