Seeing Myself Through God's Word

In an attempt to be more intentional about memorizing scripture, I posted my yearly verse, along with my weekly challenge, on the bathroom mirror (using dry erase markers). This way, I SEE what I'm trying to memorize several times a day, without having to set aside additional time. We all look in the mirror, so why not create meaning in it? Each time I brush my teeth, wash my hands, clean my face, do my hair, and put on makeup, I encounter verses from the Bible. Before posting scripture, a trip to the bathroom was just that, a trip to the bathroom...an empty task. Now, it has purpose.

Another benefit to marking scripture on the mirror, is that I see myself, literally, through God's Word. I've written the verses and His commands precisely where my face and body are reflected. If you struggle with self confidence issues, as most of us do (thanks to our skewed, photo-shopped, pop-culture world), this is a perfect way to begin removing that burden and see yourself as God does: wonderfully made. Because when I'm viewing myself through His lens, my focus is more about pleasing the Lord, and less about pleasing myself and others via appearance. Through this simple addition to the mirror, I can more easily understand and practice the welcoming knowledge that my physical body is merely a vessel for my spirit, the Holy Spirit, and the purpose He has devised for me here on Earth.
