Sick Baby

Our poor little baby was sick for the first time this past week. I find it very interesting that she wasn't sick one time while I was breastfeeding her and within the first month of my weaning her she's already been sick twice. The newest medical recommendation is to breastfeed a child until age two, and now I see the benefits of that! It makes me feel guilty for not continuing, but I pray the year of breast milk she received made her immune system strong.

The first time she was sick this week came with fever, vomit, and fatigue. I tried to get her into the doctor, but the Army isn't known for it's response time and after an hour of calling what seemed like every number on post, I finally gave up trying to reach someone. We almost took her to the E.R., but thankfully her 102 degree fever broke the next morning. Despite her suffering, I selfishly enjoyed the fatigue aspect of her illness as she kept falling asleep on my chest throughout the day, something she hasn't done since six months old and I deeply missed. If you've experienced the sensation of a child sleeping on your chest, you know it takes you to a place of pure elation and peace. There is not a more beautiful, comforting place in the world than when Adeline is curled around me. And her little buddy, Wilma, enjoyed the cuddle time, too (never too far from Addie, as seen below).
