Staycation

Last Monday, Addie and I decided we needed a little getaway for the week so we headed to the Westin La Paloma right here in town. The hotel recently underwent a 30 million dollar renovation and is absolutely beautiful! We checked in around 5 P.M. on Monday and went straight to the room to get settled. The room was modern and comfortable and our view looked out onto the golf course and mountains. I instantly felt sad, though, wishing Tim was there to enjoy the week with us! He would have loved being on that golf course! That night we just stayed in the room since it was near Addie's bedtime anyway by the time we got settled and she wasn't feeling well. By the following day she hadn't pooped in five days so we headed to the doc to get her some relief, which came after a couple rectal exams, a suppository, and some juice--poor baby! That afternoon my grandma came to see us and play with Addie. Then my mom arrived that evening to have dinner with us. Addie was wonderful and entertained the couple behind us, who were celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary! The next morning we had breakfast with my grandma (Addie wasn't on her best behavior this time =) and then we finally enjoyed time at the pool. Addie looked SO cute in her swimsuit and enjoyed splashing around and watching the other kids in the baby pool. That night we met Dave and Joan for dinner, where we enjoyed a round of yummy "rebel margaritas" and pulled pork sliders. Afterwards, Addie and Dave tinkered on the piano together. We were supposed to check out the next day, but I wasn't quite ready to end our vacation so we extended it for one more day. We spent the morning in the pool and had dinner just the two of us. I was able to get in a lot of reading, and found myself engrossed in Khaled Hosseini's new novel And The Mountains Echoed . I LOVED his previous books and couldn't wait to delve into this one; it's just as captivating as the others. Our last morning we walked around the hotel, bought some ice tea for the road and purchased a children's book about the desert for Adeline. I figure when we're freezing our butts off at West Point in a couple years we can read it to try and warm ourselves up =). It was a wonderful week of relaxing and I definitely want to go back when Tim comes home...or before!
