The blanket my student made for Baby A.
My students from the last three years have made me feel like the past few weeks made up teacher appreciation month, especially those that just started college this semester. I've received several emails from my advanced placement students thanking me for preparing them for the rigor of university. They've mentioned that their hard work in my class is reaping great benefits in their current courses, for not only them, but friends they are able to help as well. I love hearing their comments that they now understand the purpose of the intensity of the curriculum in my class, and that their writing assignments would be much more difficult had they not taken my course.

One of my favorite students from my first year of teaching sent me a facebook message this week letting me know that he will be starting his student teaching next semester. I cannot believe my first group of kiddos is so close to college graduation! For one of his education courses he has to interview an instructor who comes close to epitomizing the ideal teacher...and he chose me =). The interview has to be conducted on Skype so we set the interview for tomorrow. I'm so excited to speak with him and learn all about his ambitions!

This morning I received the above blanket in the mail from one of my Harker Heights students. She included a card explaining how she never believed in her academic ability before my class, but is now a confident writer and student in college. She passed the AP exam last year so she doesn't even have to take English in college. She said as soon she found out we were expecting a baby she knew she wanted to make us a gift. The blanket is beautiful, so soft, and matches the nursery perfectly.

I'm one blessed teacher =). Can't wait to start teaching our little one when the time comes!
