If you were to write a letter to your child that reflected your heart's desire for him or her, what would you say? Would it describe the dreams you have for your child? Would you detail the qualities you hope for them to possess? Or, would you simply express your love and devotion? I keep a journal of letters for each of my children and recently finished the first installment for our newest daughter. I hope my children read these journals again and again over their lifetime in order to feel loved, encouraged, and lead. Here is my first letter to our Isla Charlotte. My Dear Isla, This journal is a place for me to express my hopes, dreams, and love for you. I pray it helps to inspire you and guide you in a life well lived for Christ. The quote at the bottom of this page ("I have come so that may have life, and have it to the full.") is perfect for my first entry to you; not only does it refer to Jesus, but it fits for you, too. Our lives were not full and complete until you arrived. God destined you to be a part of this family at the beginning of time. He imagined your face and planned the unique purpose that only you can fulfill on this earth, for the Kingdom of God. As I write this letter to you, on your sixth week of life, your sweet smile is gazing up at me, and in your blue eyes, I see all the hope God has placed in you. Isla, you are more important and loved than you can fathom--by both your adoring mother and our Heavenly Father. In the moments that I fail you, I pray you look to God for the love and comfort and wisdom that only He can provide. He will be your source of joy and peace for all of eternity. Trust in the Lord during every happening and season of your life. Even if life takes a path you do not envision, God promises to work everything for your good, if you love Him. Above all, I pray you seek and obey God's will for your life. He has something glorious in mind just for you and I want you to experience the growth and jubilance that comes from saying "Yes!" to His leading. In every decision, quiet your mind and ask Him to speak to your soul. Be brave and follow God's voice, despite the crowd. Often, we cannot understand His plans, which are of Heavenly proportions, and that is precisely where faith becomes vital. We must trust in God to work His magic in all circumstances, playing our role to bring His vision to fruition. Isla, you have a grand opportunity to change the world in your lifetime. And I already know that you will. When you were a month old, I felt the Holy Spirit stirring inside my soul. It was more than a stir--an effervescent radiation. My whole being was filled with a palpable, tingly warmth as God spoke to me: "Isla is going to change the world." I know it with full conviction. As surely as the sun will rise in the east and set in the west, you will change the world. Now, as I look upon you I often call you my world-changer. Go forth in hope and joy, My Love, trust in His plan, and relish in Christ's peace for all of your days. All my love and devotion, Mom
