This last school year I was unemployed as we were only stationed in AL for six months and then moved to TX in March, too late for a second semester position. Prior to leaving AL I applied to all of the school districts (public, private, and charter) in El Paso. At that point I didn't know I was pregnant and our plan was that I would continue working until we had our first child. When we arrived in El Paso and found out the good news that a baby was on the way, I started applying for tutoring positions, realizing that a full time teaching position the next year would no longer be an option. It didn't make sense to me to start a new job at the end of August only to take leave at the end of October and be out until after winter break and then return to work right as Tim was about to deploy, while caring for an infant. I've been offered three teaching interviews in the last month and had to withdraw my application from each. It was extremely difficult to turn down the opportunities to teach again (how I've missed the classroom!) but I know we're doing the right thing for our family by my staying at home when baby girl arrives.
Last week I received an email from a start-up tutoring company that received my application and was interested. After providing further information, I was offered a tutoring position this morning. The company is called iCue Network--a play on I.Q. They offer online tutoring services provided by certified and retired teachers. The company is not yet up and running, but once they are, I look forward to the opportunity to stay connected to the education world. Who knows if it'll work out, but at least this business provides a potential avenue to teach based on my own schedule. Their website is https://www.icuenetwork.com/index.php if you'd like to check it out.
