Why I'm Excited to be 30

I'm officially in the third decade of life. Leading up to 30 I often heard women express fear about turning the big 3-0. And we've all heard the joke about a woman turning 29 years old year after year. However, somewhere along the way I heard one woman talk about the greatness that comes with 30. She explained that by the time you reach 30 (typically), you've learned to accept and love yourself.

I see the truth in the previous statement. When I think about my mindset and lifestyle in my (early) 20s, I spent a lot of time making mistakes while learning who I was and who I wanted to become. I was drowning in the culture and estranged from God. Now, at 30, I'm pretty comfortable in my own skin, I'm excited about my relationship with Christ, I'm grateful for my husband and extremely blessed by our two children.  As I embark on this third decade I'm immensely grateful for where I find myself and eager to see how much more life has to offer over the next ten years. Prayerfully, I'll enter my 40s with as much enthusiasm and growth.

On my birthday, Adeline decided she wanted to start the day early and I mean EARLY, like 4 A.M. early. I took her to Sabino Canyon for a hike while the boys slept. We walked for two miles and I so enjoyed her company! It's not often that I get to spend one-on-one my girl anymore.
On the way home, we picked up breakfast burritos for the family--yuuuumy. After we ate, Addie said there was a pink pony in the backyard for me. I thought it was such a cute little comment, because, of course, there was not a pink pony out there...but there was =). She had picked out a piñata that fit that description.

Then, we settled in to watch Big Hero 6. Addie and I were pooped from waking up before the sunrise so it was the perfect way to just relax. After the movie the kids napped and then we spent the afternoon swimming. For dinner, we had a small family dinner at Sakura, followed by dancing on the patio. It was the perfect low-key day I had in mind.
Lastly, I think these milestone birthdays call for a goal. My goal for the 30s is to live a healthier lifestyle, specifically in the fitness department. For the last ten years my life has been pretty void of fitness, sadly. Being genetically thin, I haven't felt the desire to work out. But I've come to realize it's not about being thin, it's about being strong. I want to be physically capable and grow my body in a way that will enable me to be more adventurous and present. I also want to model the importance of physical fitness for our children, so they will embrace the challenge and reward that comes along with building a strong body. Wish me luck!
